Another Tour Complete

I'd like to thank everyone who
came on the Stouffville Studio Tour this year and in particular all those who ventured to my location. Over the 2 days there were 193 people through to view my art. I find that very humbling to think there were so many keen people. I almost blush at all the wonderfully kind compliments.

With mixed emotions I parted with several pieces of work. Some older and some that barely had time to be appreciated on my own walls. I, and I think like many artists, have an emotional connection to each painting that I create. It could have been a pleasant memory or just remembering the steps taken in creating the work. The frustrations, the thrills, an that ever so difficult part of breaking through the initial stages where your close to tossing the piece out the window. The big part of my art experience is to share with others, so even though it pains me at times to do it, parting with my art helps me to evolve. I must not forget to also mention the importance of clearing some space for new work to inhabit, even if only a short while.

Thanks again for supporting what I do and if you are reading this you likely share the love of art.

New Work

We'll my blog has been dormant for some time. It's been an incredibly busy year. Sadly that has taken a toll on my production this year. I'm working hard to produce new work for this years Studio Tour . Here are some completed graphite drawings for this years tour.

A GREAT Day!!

I had my show at the Markham train station today. It was the 3rd annual Whistle Stop Christmas fair. There were many enthusiastic people who came to the show and they had wonderful things to say about my art.

I had a wonderful visit from a kind trio today, two of whom I met a few weeks ago while sketching at the Coffee Time on Progress Ave in Toronto while on my lunch. They asked questions about my artwork and were an absolute pleasure to talk too.

I also was the subject in the background of a Rogers TV promo for the program York Region Living. It was a media blitz for me because I was also filmed by a student reporter from Centennial college.

I may not have sold much but I'd say the day was a complete success and I look forward to it again next year.

Whistle Stop Christmas Fair

Hello Reader, I'll be showing my work again down at the Markham train station tomorrow, Dec 11, 2011. I hope your able to come. It should be a great show it's now in it's 3rd year and I'm happy to be participating again.

It's an intimate setting and a lot of fun is had by all participating. I've gotten some great feedback from it the past few years. I'm currently changing the name tags from Studio Tour to personal tags. After that it's getting a working sideshow going.

Prepping for the tour

Well dear reader, I've got a few days off from my other creative 9-5 job because it's time to start prepping the house for the tour. We have to clean up the usual toy hazard through the house and move furniture to transform the space into a fantastic gallery. I took a bit of time off from cleaning this afternoon to build the above street banner holder ( I forgot to submit it to the banner committee people on time). I'm glad I keep wood scraps around. It should look striking during the tour.

My new business cards and pens also came in today. I'm absolutely thrilled with them. No more inkjet printing and cutting with exact-o knives. I wasn't sure how the pens would be ,so I only ordered 10. Now I wish I had ordered many more as give-outs. I think for now I'll reserve them for those who buy framed original peices. First come first serve.

I better get back to work. There is still so much to do and 2 days left to do it.

To come to the tour goto www.stouffvillestudiotour.com and download a map for directions. It's this weekend.

I met the subject of my latest drawing. It's a wonderful fellow by the name of Skye.

He along with his owner were delighted to see the portrait. You can see the framed drawing and all my other work during the Stouffville Studio Tour happening October 15th and 16th

Tour invitation

Hello Friends and Family,

Yes, it's that time of year again, the Stouffville Studio Tour is coming up the weekend after Thanksgiving - Oct. 15th-16th!

We suddenly realized that Steve has been so busy trying to get some new paintings and drawings done for this year, that he hasn't
had time to do his regular mailing list. Thus this e-mail. (No, we decided to go the more environmentally friendly way all along. Mhhmm,
yes, that was it - sure.)

Please check out the website: http://www.stouffvillestudiotour.com/ for all the details (colour pictures!) and a printable map. Once
you arrive at a location, brochures with maps and details about the artists are readily available.

Lots of interesting things to see - paintings, sculpture, photography, wood carving, jewelry, pottery (go early!) stained glass etc...
and a really nice group of artists who welcome positive comments and browsing as much as sales, so never feel bad about 'just looking'. If you
want to make a day of it, there are many good places in town to eat, or stop and have a rest and a beverage. Some of the sponsors in the brochure
even have coupons! Also, many of the locations have snacks/drinks out to welcome hungry touring patrons.

So, we hope some of you might be able to make it out, and look forward to seeing you there (hope you will stop in at our house to see
Steve's efforts too!). Enjoy the tour... :-)

Best regards,

Steve, Carolyn
& Calvin
